A Sneak Peak: Picturing Change with our Featured Presenters

By now, I really hope that calendar of yours is glittered and starred out for Feb 28th – “Picture Change”.  And just to get you more excited than you already are, we have a few words from Jonathan Taggart and Ryan Gauvin – our featured presenters for the event, who will grace the stage to share their remarkable journeys in photography, their advice and expertise, and of course, their passion for the world of photography.

T: Describe what photography is to you in 5 words

J: An excuse for all exploration.

T: What does your ideal day look like?

J: One I lived recently: waking in my sleeping bag to cold morning light; strong black coffee on a cast-iron stove; pond hockey; tracking grouse hopefully through the snow; whiskey and a campfire to close.  Sprinkle photography liberally throughout.

T: What’s your favourite desert?

J: More dinner.

T: What item in your closet can you absolutely NOT live without?

J: For better or worse everything in my closet is pretty expendable, with the possible exception of a pair of unique hiking boots that would be very hard to replace.

T: What’s the one thing that always brings a smile to your face?

J: Canoes, without fail.

T: Describe what photography is to you in 5 words

R: Unlearning preconceptions through personal experience

T: Tell us about someone who has inspired you

R: My high school geography teacher, Mr.McGuire, who sparked my interest in travel, and always insisted that we think outside the box.

T: What’s your favourite breakfast?

R: My usual (and favourite) breakfast is a cup of coffee.  I eat my lunch around 11 though.  I never go hungry.

T: What item in your closet can you absolutely NOT live without?

R: Not really anything.  Maybe my plaid shirt.   Over the years it’s served as a shirt, a hat, a pillow, a bag, a cat bed, a towel, and who knows what else.  You can see why nothing lives in my closet long enough to get attached to.

T: What’s the one thing that always brings a smile to your face?

R: Kitties!
